One of the most daunting and daring tasks in the world is mountain climbing. From the harsh weather to the steepness, it takes a lot of guts to conquer such a feat. Only an intrepid soul can handle such rigorous conditions. Many tried, and trust us when we say that many failed. Take a look at some of the tallest mountains in the world.

Puncak Jaya

Puncak Jaya is also known as Carstensz Pyramid. The name was derived from Dutch explorer Jan Carstenszoon back in 1623. It’s the highest mountain in all of Indonesia, standing at 16,024 feet.
Mount Elbrus

In case you didn’t know, Mount Elbrus is the tallest mountain in the Caucasus Range of Russia. In addition, it’s an inactive volcano, and not technically a mountain.
Vinson Massif

1500 people have attempted to climb the mighty mountain of Vinson Massif. Not too many conquered because of its blistering weather in the summer. At times, temperatures will often hit – 20 degrees.

Don’t be fooled by this white wonderland. It’s easily one of the most dangerous mountains in world considering the amount of deaths that happen yearly when trying to climb. The first ascent was done by Jacque Balmat in 1786, while the first female to ever accomplish this feat was Michel Paccard in 1808.

Climbing Mount Damavand is a tall order. The mountain is over 18,000 feet tall. The first person to climb up the Iranian mountain was W.T. Thomson in 1837.
Klyuchevskaya Sopka

Klyuchevskaya Sopka is the highest active volcano in Eurasia.
Bogda Peak

Another dangerous climb comes in the form of Bogda Peak. A crew of 11 were able to handle the daunting task of climbing the Japan-based mountain back in 1981.
Namcha Barwa

At first, fear consumed everyone in terms of climbing up Namcha Barwa. The mountain hadn’t been touched up until 1992, when it was finally conquered.
Mount Kinabalu

Mount Kinabalu was formed 10 million years ago and stands at 13,345 feet. It’s considered to be the 20th most prominent mountain in the world.
Makalu

Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world at over 27,838 feet. It’s considered one of the most difficult climbs in the world because of its “steep pitches and knife-edged ridges.”
Mount Rainer

Mount Rainer is the highest mountain in the state of Washington. Before being given the name Mount Rainer, the volcano was once called Tacoma.
K2 Mountain

K2 is the second highest mountain in the world! Prior to 2004, 45 people attempted to climb the mountain, with only one making it out successfully.
